These get-togethers will be a chance for songwriters to share their original music: lyrics and/or melodies, not to be confused with popular jam sessions. Come inspire and be inspired! October Display–Marc Strahn and Kathi Hanson Collection of Russian Lacquer Miniatures
Treat yourself to this outstanding display of intricate, exceptionally detailed hand-painted boxes from Russia. Originating in the village of Fedoskino (Федоскино) near Moscow in 1795, the art of painting (often folk tale scenes) on papier-mâché decorative boxes and panels has been revived by young artists of the 21st century. You will be amazed!
Included in the display are several exquisite porcupine quill boxes made by the Sioux of North Dakota.
ART EXPRESS Exhibit on display!
The University of Wyoming Art Museum exhibition Through the looking Glass: The Portrait of the Artist will be on view in The Story Library from August 9 to September 30 in the Story Library Conference Room. We are so excited to be a part of the University of Wyoming Art Museum’s “bringing the world of art to Wyoming” campaign!
Through the Looking Glass: The Portrait of the Artist explores the tradition of self-portraits and portraits of artists in variety of mediums including drawings, prints and photography. Involved in creative pursuits, artists become interesting candidates for portrait subjects and self-portraits allow for the artist to make a unique statement about themselves. With traditional commissioned portraits the expectation is a favorable likeness of the sitter, however an artist’s self portrait or a portrait of the artist reveals more than the sitter’s physical appearance removing the conventional constraints and allowing for more experimentation.
The Touring Exhibition Service is celebrating 26 years of service throughout Wyoming.
It is made possible in part by FMC Corporation and the UW Art Museum Gala Fund.
